Under the hot July sun, Camp Latona’s first family camp made a splash with some crazy activities. The families all boarded the Latona storm for a fun-filled weekend last Friday.
The weekend adventure started off with a beautiful sunset paddle where we saw our new kids kayaks get a workout as everyone explored Latona’s coastline property. An exciting campfire finished off the day where we passed on the traditions of crazy campfire songs. Saturday started early and proved to be an exciting day. We boarded two Voyageur canoes and headed for Doug Bay – a Latona out trip site. While on out trip, we had tons of fun hiking to the natural, waterfall fed Tarzan Pools for a brisk dip! A hot dog roast rounded out the trip to Doug Bay and our paddlers rocked the return trip with competition and of course fun songs to pass the time. Saturday wrapped up with some high flying fun on the Vertical Playground where parents and kids alike scaled the 30-foot high playground of ladders, tires, and wooden beams.
Our wonderful kitchen staff put together an incredible breakfast (like they do for every meal) and everyone devoured Allie’s world famous cinnamon buns. Even though it was our last day at Latona, Sunday proved to be adrenaline pumping as all of our campers got a ride on our zipline! Much to the delight of one particular camper, Archery followed up the Zipline as our campers learned how to hit that bulls-eye a la Hunger Games. The high-energy day continued after lunch with some tubing and kneeboarding.
2013’s first family camp at Latona proved to be too much fun for some of our campers as they did not want to board that boat to head home. We had a fantastic weekend and gave the summer of 2013 a great start here at Latona. Thanks to all of the team that made it possible and of course thank you to our family campers – your excitement, energy, and spirit made for an amazing first weekend at Latona!
Tibi a Latona!
