Camp Latona is a co-ed residential summer camp for children aged 5 to 17.

Founded in 1959 on Gambier Island, BC, Canada, Latona offers a well-rounded, outdoor recreational program which includes water and land activities, hiking, a marine ecology speciality and an extensive canoe tripping program. Camp Latona is known as a small camp with a warm and highly spirited family atmosphere.

Nestled along the stunning shoreline of Howe Sound, under an hour from Vancouver by road and sea, on the north end of Gambier Island. Latona is noted for its strikingly picturesque and secluded setting. Accessible only by water, Latona’s 3500ft long waterfront and sloping forested hills offer the true essence of living on the BC’s west coast.

Latona’s most prominent feature is its Island setting. The description of Latona as a “true wilderness retreat” – where young people live, work, and play in the outdoors where, in turn they can develop themselves as individuals and with their peers. We find that the camp and the island location are vehicles to encourage the enhancement of skills, development of leadership characteristics, building camaraderie, self-esteem and resourcefulness in our youth. A crystal clear, oceanfront paradise, softly sloping tidal beach and peaceful starry nights all lend themselves to the Latona experience.

Our Camp Counsellors are individuals intent on providing quality care, role modeling and providing dynamic programming to all of our children and youth. They act as the camper’s big brothers sisters, while providing a shoulder for support and being the corner pin of the young peoples development at camp. The job of a camp counsellor is one of the most rewarding and challenging positions you will ever hold.
